Six pro tips to get the most out of Odoo

Tip 1: Don't get ahead of yourself

As a project manager at Dynapps, Satish Sewnarain regularly visits companies. He notices that people often cannot wait to get started with the implementation of Odoo. Yet Satish often puts on the brakes first and he has a good reason for this: “Before you implement processes, you must first consider whether you can optimize them. Can it be done more efficiently? Is the process sustainable? Does it fit the business strategy? Sometimes you first have to slow down, reflect and then continue. That often gives the best results.”

Tip 2: Avoid redundant Odoo modules

Odoo offers a wide range of modules for different business processes, but that does not mean that you have to use every module. Shiva Jaggan, Business Consultant and Odoo expert at Dynapps, therefore advises to only use modules that best suit your business processes. That is a lot more efficient. 

Tip 3: Automate and personalize

Odoo has several functions to automate processes. For example, you can automatically generate invoices and automate email campaigns. By making smart use of this you can significantly reduce repetitive tasks. Another way to work more efficiently is to personalize your dashboards. Shiva: “Make sure you can see the most important information at a glance. This will help you make data-driven decisions and monitor business performance.”

Tip 4: Train the Odoo trainer

The fourth tip comes from Ben Giesen, sales manager for the Netherlands at Dynapps. Train the trainer is his advice. Make sure that someone within your organization is trained as an Odoo expert, so that this person can transfer his or her knowledge and skills to the rest of the team. It is important that this so-called 'trainer' has a lot of knowledge of business processes, but is also able to transfer knowledge in a clear way to the rest of the team.

Tip 5: Remove other business apps

Rob Marinussen, software consultant at Dynapps, has clear advice for Odoo users: throw out other business apps and put all your business processes in Odoo. Why would you still work with Salesforce, Asana or Slack, when these functionalities are all in Odoo? By working in one system with one database, all business processes are connected, allowing you to work smarter, faster and more efficiently.

Tip 6: Perform timely updates

Odoo releases a new version of Odoo ERP every year. In the new release, existing modules are improved and/or expanded. In addition, new modules are launched. Anouk Kerssens, Business Consultant at Dynapps, advises Odoo users to upgrade at least once every three years: “An upgrade can ensure that you can implement new business processes in Odoo, but also that you no longer need customization, because this is now part of the standard functionalities.”
